It's fine, and I already told him.

[Lucifer looks very slowly at him. But if he hadn't hit Al in retaliation, it's a good bet he won't over this.]

He hasn't come 'round to yell at me, so what did you tell him? How did he take it?

[Al isn't afraid. Besides, he never agreed NOT to tell him -- and he'd warned Lucifer that he would.]

I told him the truth. He was upset with me. Not mad, but- upset. He doesn't like the thought of us fighting, or your being hurt, or thinking about the reasons why.

He understood, but he wasn't happy to hear it.

[Break had been upset with Al.

Lucifer is so accustomed to taking blame (because he often deserves it), it's never occurred to him that someone might actually want to take his side. Not that Break has, exactly. But he hasn't fought with Lucifer over it which is an improvement.

He realizes he's smiling slightly and tries to straighten his expression into something neutral.]

I guess I'll have to talk to him, then. He probably thinks it's a sign of a backslide.

[Al pushes at his arm, lightly.]

Don't you go getting smug.

[He pushes him back, all mischief now.]

I'm not. Things have been...good. Here's a little secret: I'm not really used to it. And he keeps doing things that don't ruin it. It's kind of a new thing.

[al_truism]

Good for you.

[He means it.]

You've been adapting to things.

[That's a way of asking how Al is adjusting, without making it sound like they're friends. Because they aren't. He'd meant everything he'd said a few weeks ago, even if he wishes he hadn't said them all. He hadn't been himself.]

Slowly.

I went and chopped down trees and pulled up the trunks with Xerxes a few days ago. It helped work off some of the destructive mood.

Anger. It's so productive. Even more than acceptance is.

Oddly, that's exactly what he said.

You know, he and I are a lot more alike than you'd think.

[Which is terrifying, considering how much Al loves Break.]

But you took such opposite paths.

[It explains why Lucifer seems to be so attached to Break, too, doesn't it?]

Did we? You know what he did for his family.

He did. And it backfired on him. Terribly.

Yeah, well, it wasn't really my goal to end up in Hell, either.

[Hell wasn't the worst of it. Losing his family--like Break had--was.]

He took something different from it, than what you did.

His beloved Father didn't design it specifically for him. It's the little details, don't you think?

Your dad doesn't sound as nice as people make him out to be.

People seem to forget that He'd turn them into salt, or murder their firstborns, or feed them to each other if He wanted. He was never nice. People just wish He was.

Anyway, if you want to talk about Him, Yuca's a better source. [No less bitter, just more human.]

Did you get any visitors? The event?

I have talked to Yuca about Him. A lot.

... ah. Yes. My parents, Winry, the Colonel, my teacher, and Maes.

Your dad. How awkward is that?

I don't... really know how to feel about it. I'm happy that he's here for my Mom, but I don't expect anything to come of it.
