I like the others to think that I'm doing all right. I don't want to drag anyone down or make them worry.

Well, I won't criticize. I wouldn't tell those assholes I was in pain if my head was on fire.

[He winks, because that's not what Al meant, and he knows it. But he also understands what it is to not want to disclose the truth, when the truth is that you're not healing fast enough for them.]

So you're telling me, because you know it won't drag me down.

Yes. It won't bother you. And if you think I'm weak -- well, you can't think much less of me.

[He just smiles very slightly at that. What Al says is true, but there's a touch of sympathy in Lucifer's expression.]

You aren't the only person I know who's lost someone they needed.

But, back to the point. I can clear your mind now or I can follow you to bed. I'll let you decide how that goes.

Because I know I have to set boundaries with you. Otherwise I get visits in the middle of the night and charcoal mustaches.

[He's on the edge of not caring.]

[Lucifer reaches up, and touches Al's forehead. The thoughts will drain away like water from a jug, leaving behind nothing. Lucifer is incapable of sharing peace now, but he can do nothingness.

And it will probably be more restful than dreaming all night of the ocean. You know. Maybe.

At any rate, it's deeper than hypnosis, and only sleep will banish it.]

Go to bed.

[The pressure goes away. The pain, the worry, the sadness, the aching guilt. He hadn't been aware of how much he was feeling until it went away.

He reaches for Lucifer's arm, trying to make sure he wouldn't fall over. Once his mind is empty, his body starts screaming exhaustion.]

[Lucifer walks him inside, a step at a time. He finds Al's room in the dark, and just lays him down with clothes and shoes on. He's still fairly bad at stripping his own body, let alone someone else's boots.

And he waits until Al is asleep before he leaves. Just to be sure it worked.]
